Why telehealth?

Telemental health, also known as teletherapy or online therapy, is all about providing mental health support through digital platforms like video calls, phone calls, or messaging. It's incredibly beneficial for clients because it makes therapy more accessible and convenient. You can connect with your therapist from the comfort and privacy of your own home, which can be especially helpful if you're dealing with a busy schedule or transportation issues. Plus, it can make reaching out for help feel a little less daunting, offering a safe and private space for you to share and heal.

What is Private Pay in a Therapeutic Setting?

Private pay means that clients pay for therapy sessions directly, rather than using insurance. In our practice, a 53-minute session is $145. If your therapist isn't in your insurance network, don’t worry! You can request a superbill after your session. This detailed receipt can be submitted to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan. We’re here to support you every step of the way and help you get the most out of your insurance benefits while receiving the care you need.

What is a super bill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt provided by your therapist after a session, and it's especially handy if you're looking to get reimbursed by your insurance. Think of it as a bridge between your therapy sessions and your insurance company. The superbill includes important information like the date of your session, the services provided, and the cost.

Here's how you can submit a superbill for reimbursement:

1. Obtain the Superbill: After your session, ask your therapist for a superbill. They will provide a document that includes all the necessary details for your insurance company.

2. Check Your Insurance Policy: Review your insurance policy or contact your insurance provider to understand their process for out-of-network reimbursement and ensure you have the correct forms.

3. Fill Out the Claim Form: Your insurance company will have a claim form that you need to fill out. This form usually asks for information about the service provided and details from the superbill.

4. Submit the Superbill and Claim Form: Attach the superbill to the completed claim form and send it to your insurance company. Some insurers allow electronic submissions via their website or app, while others may require you to mail it in.

5. Follow Up: After submitting, it’s a good idea to follow up with your insurance company to confirm they received the documents and to check the status of your reimbursement.

Using a superbill can help you get the most out of your insurance benefits while receiving the support you need. If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, don't hesitate to ask your therapist for guidance.

What ages do you work with?

I specialize in working with adults, ages eighteen and up.

What Are Holistic Services?

Holistic services take a whole-person approach to well-being, addressing the mind, body, and spirit rather than just symptoms. At Rising Lotus Counseling Services, our holistic offerings include yoga, meditation, sound healing, breathwork, and mindfulness practices. These services work alongside traditional therapy to support mental health in a way that feels natural, grounding, and empowering. Think of it as giving your nervous system a gentle hug while your brain does the deep work of healing.

Are Holistic Services Research-Based for Mental Health Improvements?

Absolutely! While holistic services may have a reputation for being a little “woo,” science is fully on board. Research has shown that yoga can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, meditation can rewire the brain for resilience, and sound healing can help regulate the nervous system. Breathwork has been found to improve emotional regulation, and mindfulness is a well-documented tool for reducing stress and enhancing well-being. These practices are evidence-based, but they also tap into something deeper—your innate ability to heal, grow, and find balance.

What Modalities both traditional and Holist are offered? What are their risks and benefits?

Therapeutic Modalities: Research, Risks, & Benefits

Each therapeutic and holistic approach has potential benefits and risks. Participation is voluntary, and clients may opt out of any practice. This is not an exhaustive list. Other theraputic modalities and Holistic techniques may be used. Clients are encouraged to ask questions if they have any concerns and are encouraged to do their own research as to if these modalities aren't and approaches are right for them. The methods therapists of rising lotus counseling services uses include, but are not limited to the following.

1. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy

  • Research Support: IFS is an evidence-based therapy that conceptualizes the mind as composed of sub-personalities or "parts," which interact within an individual’s internal system. Research has shown IFS to be effective in treating PTSD, depression, and anxiety (Schwartz, 2021).
  • Benefits: Encourages self-leadership, emotional balance, and trauma healing.
  • Risks: Can bring up unresolved trauma, leading to temporary emotional distress before integration occurs.

2. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Research Support: CBT is widely recognized as the gold standard for treating depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD (Beck, 2011).
  • Benefits: Encourages adaptive thinking patterns, improves emotional well-being, and enhances coping skills.
  • Risks: Addressing distressing thoughts may temporarily increase anxiety.

3. Mindfulness-Based Therapy

  • Research Support: Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been extensively studied for their role in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain (Kabat-Zinn, 1990; Goyal et al., 2014). Research suggests that mindfulness strengthens neural pathways involved in emotional regulation and enhances self-awareness.
  • Benefits: Helps regulate stress responses, improves emotional resilience, and enhances overall well-being.
  • Risks: Individuals with trauma histories may initially experience discomfort when focusing inward.

4. Yoga & Somatic Therapy

  • Research Support: Yoga therapy improves autonomic nervous system regulation, reducing symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression (Van der Kolk, 2014).
  • Benefits: Enhances mind-body awareness and reduces emotional distress.
  • Risks: Some poses or breathwork may trigger emotional releases.

5. Meditation

  • Research Support: Meditation has been found to lower stress, increase self-awareness, and support trauma recovery (Goyal et al., 2014).
  • Benefits: Promotes relaxation, clarity, and emotional regulation.
  • Risks: Some individuals may experience frustration when beginning meditation, and deep meditation may bring up unresolved emotions.

6. Sound Healing Therapy

  • Research Support: Sound healing, including singing bowls, tuning forks, and vibrational therapy, has been studied for its ability to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance emotional regulation (Goldsby et al., 2017).
  • Benefits: Can aid in reducing anxiety, insomnia, and physical tension while improving overall emotional balance.
  • Risks: Some individuals may experience headaches, dizziness, or overstimulation from sound frequencies. Those with epilepsy or a history of sound sensitivity should consult their provider before participating.

7. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Research Support: EMDR is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychological Association (APA) as an effective treatment for PTSD and trauma-related disorders (Shapiro, 2018).
  • Benefits: Helps process traumatic memories, reducing distress.
  • Risks: Can cause emotional discomfort during trauma processing.

8. Tarot & Oracle Cards as Therapeutic Tools

  • Research Support: Tarot and oracle cards have been used as projective tools in psychotherapy to explore subconscious thoughts and facilitate self-reflection (Labonté et al., 2021).
  • Benefits: Encourages introspection and personal insight.
  • Risks: Should be used for self-reflection, not prediction.

9. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Research Support: ACT combines mindfulness with behavioral therapy to help clients accept difficult emotions and commit to value-based living. Research has shown ACT to be effective for chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, and depression (Hayes et al., 2012).
  • Benefits: Helps individuals accept emotional experiences rather than avoid them, promoting psychological flexibility.
  • Risks: Can initially evoke discomfort as individuals work through painful emotions.

10. Narrative Therapy

  • Research Support: Narrative therapy has been demonstrated to be effective in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders by empowering clients to reframe their personal narratives (White & Epston, 1990; Angus & McLeod, 2004).
  • Benefits: Encourages self-empowerment, fosters resilience, and aids in trauma recovery.
  • Risks: Can cause emotional discomfort when confronting painful personal narratives or rewriting past trauma.

11. Gottman Method Couples Therapy

  • Research Support: The Gottman Method is grounded in over 40 years of research into what makes marriages succeed or fail. It is widely considered one of the most reliable and researched approaches to couples therapy (Gottman & Silver, 1999).
  • Benefits: Helps couples build stronger communication skills, emotional closeness, and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Risks: In some cases, couples may experience increased tension or conflict in the short term as difficult issues are addressed, especially if the relationship is highly distressed.

12. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

  • Research Support: EFT is an evidence-based modality shown to be effective in treating relationship distress and improving emotional bonds (Johnson, 2004). Research has demonstrated its success in improving attachment bonds, particularly in couples dealing with communication breakdowns or trauma.
  • Benefits: Strengthens emotional bonds, increases empathy, and improves overall relationship satisfaction.
  • Risks: Emotional breakthroughs may bring discomfort or heightened emotional expression. The therapeutic process requires full engagement from both partners to be effective.

13. Breathwork Therapy

  • Research Support: Studies show that controlled breathing techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms (Zaccaro et al., 2018). Breathwork has been linked to lower cortisol levels, improved emotional regulation, and enhanced cognitive function (Jerath et al., 2015).
  • Benefits: Reduces stress and anxiety, supports trauma processing and emotional release, improves focus, sleep, and relaxation, and enhances self-awareness
  • Risks: Some techniques may cause dizziness, hyperventilation, or emotional overwhelm. Individuals with asthma, cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy, or a history of panic attacks should consult a healthcare provider before engaging in intensive breathwork.

14. Ritual & Energy Work (Therawitch Only)

  • Research Support: Rituals and energy-based practices have been studied in anthropology and psychology for their role in structuring emotional healing and personal transformation (Eliade, 1964).
  • Benefits: Can create a psychological framework for emotional processing.
  • Risks: May not align with all spiritual beliefs.
